Hurricane Preparedness Program
Friday, August 1, 2014 at 11 am at the DeLand Library
It’s hurricane season! Learn how to prepare your home and family for a hurricane or other disaster.
Volusia County Emergency Management will review the services the county provides to residents during emergencies. They will also share information about family disaster plans and disaster preparedness kits. Informational brochures will be available in English and Spanish. Reservations are not required for this free program.

Saturday, August 2, 2014 from 11 am - 2 pm at the Ormond Beach Library
Come see 100 beautiful pieces from artists who didn't think they could draw.
On show will be pencil/charcoal drawings, watercolors, pastels, colored pencils, acrylics, and oils. We will offer demonstrations and balloon hats for the kids. You will have the opportunity to sign-up for free classes for the next four Saturdays. Classes are limited to 20 participants.

Big Red Bus Visit

OneBlood’s Big Red Bus will be on-site to accept blood donations in the library's parking lot. OneBlood serves more than 200 hospitals and health care facilities in Central Florida. The bloodmobile is open to the public and incentives for donating may be available while supplies last. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are strongly encouraged.
Daniel Brandt, community relations coordinator for OneBlood, will also stop by the library, the day before the bloodmobile's visit, to discuss the blood donation process and to schedule appointments.

Memory loss, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease

If you or a loved one is affected by Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, now is the time to learn the facts. Danny Anez of the Alzheimer’s Association of Central & North Florida will present a workshop titled “Memory loss, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease”.He will discuss:

Author to discuss ‘The Sheltering’
Monday, August 11, 2014 at 11 am at the Ormond Beach Library and 3:30 pm at the DeLand Library.
Award-winning author Mark Powell will discuss the craft of fiction and his upcoming novel, “The Sheltering.”
Famed author Pat Conroy writes in the introduction to Powell’s new novel, “‘The Sheltering’ is at once haunting and an act of pure grace;” and Ron Rash, noted author of "The Cove," writes, “‘The Sheltering’ further secures Mark Powell's place as one of the best American novelists of his generation."
Powell is the author of three previous novels, “Prodigals,” “Blood Kin” and “The Dark Corner.” He has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and was recently awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to teach in Slovakia beginning in September.
He has degrees from Yale Divinity School, the University of South Carolina and the Citadel. He is an associate professor of English at Stetson University.
