The Volusia County Public Library will present The Big Read program January 17 - February 28, 2016
The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.
The Big Read program encourages community reading through programs designed around a single book.
The Volusia County Public Library selected Harper Lee's "To Kill a Mockingbird" as its Big Read title. It is the rare American novel that can be discovered with excitement in adolescence and reread into adulthood without fear of disappointment. Few novels so appealingly evoke the daily world of childhood in a way that seems convincing whether you are 16 or 66.
The Library's 13 branches and other venues throughout the county will host book discussions, author talks, screenings of the documentary "Hey, Boo!", an original play written by Karen Poulsen, and many other community programs.
